We are looking for a motivated accounting professional to lead our Personal Income Tax Audit Project. You’ll help to expedite refunds while ensuring fair and accurate assessment of state income tax returns.

As a Tax Analyst, you will review state income tax returns, using your professional judgment to analyze whether returns require audit. You’ll also research legal precedents, communicate with taxpayers, and contribute to a culture that values integrity and continuous learning.

As the Project Lead, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Establishing project goals and timelines
  • Overseeing audits from initiation to resolution
  • Issuing refunds or calculating additional liabilities
  • Creating progress reports and adjusting strategies as needed
  • Training and supervising staff as the project grows

You’ll be supported by a knowledgeable team but given autonomy over your workload. Opportunities for broader tax audit engagement are available throughout the year.

Work Schedule

Hybrid model: On-site presence required every Tuesday – Thursday at one of our two Delaware offices . Remote work is permitted on Mondays and Fridays.

Schedule: 37.5 hours per week with flexible start/end times and no seasonal overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Examine financial records and calculate taxes based on regulations
  • Request relevant documentation to support tax positions
  • Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare and organize work papers using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Navigate database/mainframes to manage audit timelines, liabilities, payments, refunds and reports
  • Communicate effectively with taxpayers or their representatives via the phone, email, or video
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Foster a collaborative and productive environment within the audit team
  • Represent the organization before taxing authorities
  • Successfully complete continuing education courses in related subject areas to maintain professional status
  • Comply with all time and attendance policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in accounting (CPA/CPA candidates strongly preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience with personal income tax preparation, review, or audit
  • Working knowledge of Federal and Delaware tax laws
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and insured vehicle for local travel required to perform duties
  • Ability to pass a background screening, drug testing and credit check
