Job Summary

The Safety and Security Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing all safety, occupational health, and physical security programs within the airline catering facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and aviation regulatory agencies (e.g., FAA, TSA, OSHA) while fostering a safety-first culture throughout the operation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food safety, physical security, risk management, and regulatory compliance within a high-paced, unionized, and highly regulated environment

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures aligned with OSHA, FDA, and company standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and facility inspections.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
  • Oversee employee safety training programs and ensure training records are up to date.
  • Manage injury reporting, recordkeeping, and workers’ compensation protocols.

Security Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with all TSA and airline security requirements, including site access controls, employee badging, and inspections.
  • Liaise with airline security teams and government agencies (TSA, CBP) for audits, updates, and threat assessments.
  • Manage CCTV, alarm, and access control systems to ensure operational readiness.
  • Train employees on security procedures, threat awareness, and emergency response.
  • Oversee the security company and their surveillance of the front door access.

Emergency Response & Preparedness:

  • Maintain and routinely test the facility’s Emergency Response Plan.
  • Coordinate drills (fire, evacuation, active threat, etc.) and response team readiness.
  • Serve as primary contact for incident command during emergencies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with HR, Operations, and Quality teams to drive a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support airline client audits and reporting requirements related to safety and security.
  • Lead Safety Committee and represent the location during corporate safety calls or reviews.



 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Security, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in safety and/or security management, preferably in aviation, food manufacturing, or logistics.
  • Knowledge of FAA, TSA, OSHA, FDA, and HACCP standards.
  • Experience in unionized environments a strong plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of risk assessments, root cause analysis, and mitigation planning.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional training and drive cultural change.
  • Proficient with MS Office, security systems, and incident reporting tools

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and inspect operational areas for extended periods.
  • Willingness to respond during off-hours or emergencies.
  • Comfortable working in cold/hot food production environments.
