New England Cancer Specialist is looking for a ful l-time Clinical Oncology Pharmacist, for our Topsham Office.

The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist role at New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is a unique opportunity to tailor the practice oncology pharmacy in a collaborative outpatient healthcare setting. NECS is an independently owned community oncology practice focused on providing the highest quality oncology care by prioritizing patient-centered themes such as compassion, innovation, and creativity. NECS is active on a national level through its participation in advocacy and clinical excellence as a leading member in groups such as the Community Oncology Alliance, ASCO, OnCare Alliance, Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Collaborative Network, among others.

This pharmacist role is responsible for working closely with the Directors of Pharmacy Clinical Services and Pharmacy Operations with the goal of continuing to improve and expand the quality of pharmacy services offered at all New England Cancer Specialists clinic sites. The clinical oncology pharmacist at NECS plays a crucial role within the multidisciplinary team. The expectation is that a collaborative approach to patient care will involve clear and constant communication with clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, research, IT, finance, administration, and any other department as needed. Key areas of responsibility will be to ensure the provision of safe, appropriate, timely, and cost-effective treatment and supportive care to NECS patients in accordance with evidence-based literature, regulations governing pharmacy practice, and institutional policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Monitor patient treatment plans for safety and accuracy
    • Speak with and educate patients about medication related concerns whenever appropriate
    • Proactively identify, participate and facilitate medication-related quality improvement projects
    • Be physically present in clinic in order to most effectively interact with NECS clinical staff
    • Work with Director of Pharmacy Clinical Services on drug formulary selection and implementation
    • Participate in drug formulary management and assist with the safe implementation of new medications and treatment regimens for use within the practice.
    • In compliance with continually updated content of the DFCI Philips pathways, or via request by NECS physician, assist with the maintenance and updating of regimens/formulary within the EMR
    • Serve as a drug information resource for medication related inquiries from all practitioner disciplines

Education and/or Experience

  • BS Degree in Pharmacy required, PharmD degree preferred.
  • Currently licensed/registered Pharmacist in the State of Maine
  • Expectation to obtain licensure in the State of New Hampshire within 6 months of hire date

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • 5 or more years of progressive pharmacy experience working in an oncology setting
  • Proven organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of expertise and knowledge of pharmacy operations
  • Evidence of leadership in pharmacy practice
